Data Recovery from Read-Only HDD

There is a typical malfunction for Barracuda 7200.8, 7200.9 and 7200.10, in which the HDD can’t be detected and no access to data.  In this case, we sitll use the HD DOCTOR to solve the problem. More over, the HDD outputs the following error message to the log:

After research, we think the problem is caused by corrupted G-List or SMART and the solution is to clear G-List or SMART. The procedure is this: in cmd mode, switch power off and on, immediately press keyboard Ctrl+Z to get “T>” after message “(P) PATA Reset” and before “Failed sys sect. write”. Then clear G-List or SMART.

Command sequence for clearing G-List (In level T): Ctrl+R (keyboard) ——>i4, 1, 22.

Command sequence for clearing SMART (In level 1): /1(T>/1) —–>N1 (1>).

If these two solutions fail, we assume there are physical bad sectors on the track where G-List or SMART locates. No solution for the case.
