Connect the HDD to the HD DOCTOR for WD console,then we can see the SN number of the HDD is in a mess and the last four characters display as XYZ….There are mainly three reasons cause the fault.
- 1st.The PCB was changed before.
- 2nd.PCB malfunction
- 3rd.ROM was damaged
Try to find a HDD in a good situation which has a same Model,spindle motor number and PCB number with the malfunction HDD.Then replace the PCB and upload Module 11 backup from the original HDD.
- First connect the HDD to the console,then we can get the information of the HDD from the info bar.If the HDD get recognized as XXXXXXXX#XYZ,you should take the following steps to repair it.
- Try to find a HDD in a good situation which has a same model,spindle motor number and PCB with the malfuntion HDD.Backup the ROM of the original HDD and change the PCB.Then get the malfuntion HDD connnected and upload Module 11 backup from the original HDD.
- Turn to the “Other Operations” Tab when upload finished.Click “HDD Power Off” button then exit the application.
- Launch the application again, the HDD should be recognized correctly.
Attention
1st.Above all,you have to backup the ROM of the original HDD.
2nd.Wait for about 30 secs to 1 min when you re-launch the application after change the PCB.Any attemption to close the application during this process will lead to a repair failure.
3rd.If you can’t upload any module after changed the PCB,some heads may be damaged, you need depop the damaged head.
4th.Remember to reset the power of the HDD,then exit the application and restart.Follow these steps carefully and the HDD will be OK.
