Depop Head in F> repair for Seagate Drive

F> repair is a useful, efficient mode to repair drive problem, include bad sector on both Service Area and Data Area, firmware problem and so on. Summarize, F> repair could solve almost all problems for Seagate drive except physical problem. But it will lose all data! So for data recovery, it’s useless.

But sometimes, few errors may cause the F> repair couldn’t complete. This case we have an example about the head problem cause the F> repair failed and the solution.

This drive has a strong problem and turn to F level, and the user needn’t its data, just want to fix it. So we decide to run F> repair:

But when the F> repair running, the drive got some strange noise, went to CMD mode, we found that the head couldn’t be ready status:

Well, now we know maybe one of the head has problem, that caused the F> repair failed, so we must depop the broken head, and we could depop head in the process of F> repair directly.

Before we carry out the F> repair process, we must type the SN number first, as the following picture:

For this drive, the SN number is: 5JVXWE39. Pay attention to the third number “V”, this letter represents the head number, “V” means two heads, and if we want to depop one head, just change this number to “X” which represents only one head (hold the main head):

The other steps are same, just change the third SN number from “V” to “X”, that we have finish the head depop, and now the F> repair could be carried out:
