ROM data of Seagate HDD includes boot code, head adaptive and address of service area etc. With HD Doctor for Seagate, users can read the content out from ROM chip.
However, ROM read/write only works on HDDs with external serial flash ROM. Those HDDs with embedded ROM chip doesn’t support ROM read/write.
Read/write command is executed in Level F, so you can only connect PCB to console box.PCB will work only in Level F.
If the HDD can’t enter Level F, you can use tweezers to short-circuit pin #1 and #2 and remove tweezers after HDD enters Level F. Then choose the option of Safe Upload.

HDD enters Level F when power is on with pin #1 and #2 short-circuited. MASKROM stands for code of embedded ROM in microprocessor. The message means short-circuit succeeds.

However, to short-circuit ROM chip of laptop HDD, you need to remove PCB from HDA, then you will see ROM chip. And it will output ALPINE instead of MASKROM in case of successful short-circuit.

Before reading/writing ROM, you need to Load from HDD first, which is in order to make HD Doctor identify drive family. Some HDDs can’t be automatically detected. Thus, you need to manually select drive family.

After Load from HDD, enter the menu of ROM Operation, click Read. ROM data will be read out and save as binary file.
:This option will first switch HDD to Level F and then rewrite ROM data.
:This option is used in the case of short-circuit.
