Password unlock for 5425

Today, I encounter a case of Hitachi 5425, which is locked. The article is to tell you step by step to unlock the drive.

First, you need to set drive in safe mode. This is because the drive will not allow access to firmware and NVRAM when it’s locked in user mode. Therefore, you need to set it in safe mode to get access to NVRAM. In this case, it’s a SATA drive, so you need to remove PCB out from HDA case and connect only PCB to console. Select drive family as 5425 after PCB reports on readiness.

Second, enter the menu of NVRAM Operation to change boot flag and make drive boot from SA-C. (Boot flag, “0401″ boot from SA-A and “0400″ boot from SA-C).

Third, select working SA to SA-C

Fourth, save password module of SA-C

Fifth, select working SA back to SA-A

Sixth, overwrite password module of SA-A with the one in SA-C

Seventh, password now is removed, but you need to change NVRAM boot flag to make drive boot from SA-A (user mode).

Finally, password is removed and data is back.
