Firmware is the spirit of hard drive. As for a drive restoration practitioner, firmware can work effortless in case of any biting issues, same as the abundant store of drugs in the drugstore, where there’s a chance to meet a wide variety of difficult symptoms with best remedy to the case. In this case, we should get used to download all the resources from a new hard drive at first hand, so that we will be able to cope with every problem now and again.
The download of Maxtor firmware is always being a huge load of resources and some new comer may get confuse about it. Thus, here we make it short and brief, as follows:
First of all, connect the hard drive (set jumper in master mode) and Doctor correctly to computer; start up HD Doctor booted into hard drive:
Turn to Firmware Download interface. First, download the entire mode, choose “All” and start to read:
We will see that a part of firmware is failed to read after it stopped. However, it is very normal when download firmware. It can be ignored so far as the key mode is functioning.
Then download the firmware, meanwhile, choose “All”, and click “Save”:
As soon as the reading performance of firmware finished, then turn to HDD boot management interface.
Click “Load Boot” and “Load ROM” one by one:
After a while, save Boot and RAM finished.

Turn to Defect List Operations, click “View P-List”, and start to download P-List. For a moment, P-List defect log will show up in Defect Management frame, so save P-List finished:
There is a special condition that after we click the button, but wait a moment later, nothing shows in the frame. The reason may cause by the error #51 module, if this module has corrupted, “View P-list” couldn’t read the defect log from this module, so we couldn’t backup P-list file in this condition.
For the last ROM files, the hard drive should be set up to safety mode in order to perform operations on ROM, first, shut down the power and set the drive up to safety mode (please refer to Maxtor manual for the setup method of safe mode), and then get into ROM Operation interface after the power up is ready, click “Save ROM”:
After then, the entire button on this interface will turn gray, the light of “BUSY” and “DSAP” on the control panel is flickering, after a minute, the status bar is ready again, and save ROM finished. What should be concerned is the save of ROM will be working only when the PCB was embedded with a sole ROM chip, without it, there will be an error right in the status bar. Lastly, return to the download files catalog and check out the download resources:
So far, Maxtor hard drive resource download is all done.
